SUPERNOVA 2001cj IN UGC 8399

M. Ganeshalingam and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7514) of an apparent supernova in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on May 30.3 (mag about 15.9) and 31.3 UT (mag about 15.7). The new object is located at R.A. = 13h21m44s.85, Decl. = +31o14'48".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7".6 west and 35".2 north of the nucleus of UGC 8399. A KAIT image of the same field taken on May 17.3 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 18.5).
