SUPERNOVA 2001cy IN UGC 11927

M. Ganeshalingam, M. Modjaz, and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7514) of an apparent supernova in unfiltered images taken with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on June 30.5 (mag about 16.3) and July 1.4 UT (mag about 16.2). The new object is located at R.A. = 22h09m27s.76, Decl. = +40o59'16".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3".6 east and 6".1 south of the nucleus of UGC 11927. A KAIT image taken on June 19.5 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.5).
