SUPERNOVA 2001ff IN UGC 4685

W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley, reports the discovery by LOTOSS (cf. IAUC} 7514) of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.1) in unfiltered KAIT images taken on Nov. 2.5 and 3.5 UT. SN 2001ff is located at R.A. = 8h57m00s.97, Decl. = +13o11'59".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".5 west and 2".6 north of the nucleus of UGC 4685. A KAIT image taken on Apr. 17.2 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0).
