SUPERNOVA 2002bv IN UGC 4042

P. Martin and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley (UCB), report the LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7514) discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.8) on unfiltered CCD images taken with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) on Mar. 29.2 and 30.2 UT. SN 2002bv is located at R.A. = 7h50m01s.13, Decl. = +30o01'32".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 14".3 east and 2".3 north of the nucleus of UGC 4042. A KAIT image taken on Jan. 31.2 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.5).
