SUPERNOVA 2002dx IN UGC 12861

B. Swift and W. D. Li, University of California at Berkeley (UCB), report the LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7906) discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT CCD images taken on July 8.5 (mag about 18.8) and 9.5 UT (mag about 18.9). SN 2002dx is located at R.A. = 23h57m06s.73, Decl. = +29o50'15".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4".0 east and 5".3 south of the nucleus of UGC 12861. A KAIT image taken on 2001 Nov. 19.2 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.5).
