SUPERNOVA 2002hn IN NGC 2532

D. Hutchings and W. Li, University of California, Berkeley (UCB), report the LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7906) discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 16.8) on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Nov. 5.5 and 6.5 UT. SN 2002hn is located at R.A. = 8h10m14s.95, Decl. = +33o57'19".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 0".5 west and 4".6 south of the nucleus of NGC 2532. A KAIT image taken on Oct. 30.5 showed the new object at mag 17.3, while an image on Oct. 21.5 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0). SN 1999gb also occurred in NGC 2532. R. Foley, Li, and A. V. Filippenko, UCB, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 310-1000 nm), obtained on Nov. 6 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector at Lick Observatory, reveals that SN 2002hn is of type Ic, within one week of maximum brightness.
