SUPERNOVAE 2009iz IN UGC 2175
Further to CBET 1943, W. Li, S. B. Cenko, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images: SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2009iz Sept. 19.52 2 42 15.41 +42 23 50.1 18.2 12".3 W, 14".5 N Additional KAIT magnitude for 2009iz in UGC 2175: Jan. 2.25 UT, [19.6; Sept. 7.45 UT, [18.2; 20.40 UT, 18.3. J. M. Silverman and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley; and R. J. Foley, Center for Astrophysics, report that inspection of a CCD spectrogram (range 320-1020 nm), obtained on Sept. 22 UT with the Keck I 10-m telescope (+ LRIS), shows that the object is a type-Ib or type-Ic supernova; weak He I lines appear to be present, but should strengthen with time if the object is a normal type-Ib event. The redshift of the host galaxy, measured from narrow emission lines, is 0.014.-----------------------------
Host galaxy info: vel = 4265 km/s; 1.1 x 1.0; 15.1; SAB(s)bc
