NAME
gs - installs guidestars into request file
SYNOPSIS
gs request_file
DESCRIPTION
gs looks thru the request file specified on the command line for the
values of the target ra and the guider ra. It then searches the file
$HOME_DIR/gs.log for a target coordinate that is within 0.002 degrees.
If one is present, it uses the guide star associated with that entry. If no
previous star is found it then searches the guide star catalog using
mboxofstars
and the bright star catalog using
bright,
generates
a file `starlist.gs' of neighboring stars. It then applies the vignetting
corrections to make a list of accessible guide stars and sorts thme to find
the brightest guide star. The coordinates are then installed as `GURA',
`GUDEC', `GUEPOCH' and
`GUMAG'.
Each stanza of the request file is processed separately, but consecutive
stanzas with identical coordinates are handled in an intelligent
manner.
If you find that the guide star for a certain target is poor, you should
comment out the entry in gs.log and replace it with a better candidate
such as found by
allstar.
