Helioseismology
By observing
Doppler shifts of the solar surface, we can measure waves which travel in the interior. Their behavior gives the run of density, temperature, and rotation velocities inside the Sun. We can compare these with detailed theoretical predictions, giving us
great
confidence in the computer models of not
only the Sun, but other stars as well. We
can measure the depth of the convection zone, and see how the inside rotates.
