The Gemini Planet Imager: Integration status Bruce Macintosh (LLNL) The Gemini Planet Imager is an advanced extreme-adaptive optics planet imager, incorporating a 1800-actuator MEMS-based AO system, diffraction-control masks, a precision wavefront sensing interferometer, and an integral field spectrograph. I will give an overview of the instrument, its science case, design, and its operating principals. GPI is currently undergoing integration and test at UCSC before shipping to the Gemini Observatory, and I will discuss its status.
